Little Miss Muffet Takes a Hike

But not with me.

Unlike Miss M, I like spiders. She and I would have parted company at the first sight of all those legs and eyes.

Hauling logs out of the wood pile I flipped one over and found 6 spider “skeletons”.

Not real bones. The hard outer covering — the exoskeleton — that a spider sheds each time it grows larger.

They were like a set of nesting dolls. You know the kind that sit one inside the other? Each one slightly larger than the one before it.

I imagine this spider found a comfortable gig in the wood pile — food nearby and a quiet spot to “change clothes” when it outgrew the last set.

It’s not unusual to find a single exoskeleton. But so many in one spot isn’t common here.

Miss Muffet missed a good photo op.
