Fallen Stars

I went in search of spotted coralroot orchids

Found fallen stars instead

Gathered in the roadside ditch

  1. In the very first photo, I admired the flowers first, and then I noticed something. On the left side, two of the leaves appear to have been nibbled in exactly the same way. It seems pretty likely to me that something has a taste for these plants — do you happen to know what it is? It doesn’t look like insects. The “bite” is so neat and tidy!

    1. You have a sharp eye! The flowers are quite small (the second photo shows the plant alongside some clover leaves). As for who had dinner I didn’t see any “bugs”. Perhaps some sort of leaf cutter bee?
