Adrift

Cast off in sudden flight
Amid the push of wings
And rush of air

A single feather
Settled here
Upon the pond

  1. I can’t help picking up the odd feather, and this is a pretty one. Like the others, it would come home with me, stay around for a while, and then be shed for a second time.

    1. We do tend to be gatherers. Rocks, feathers, twigs, bits and pieces that catch our eye. We have accumulated a very large bone pile — skulls, shoulder blades, long bones, vertebrae, antlers and horns. We’ve picked these up on wanderings through our woods. The red squirrels consider this their personal storehouse, nibbling away at them for the calcium.
